Rainbow Dyeing in a Crock Pot

Step 5:

Gently pour water into the crock pot at the edge, not allowing the stream to fall on the fiber.
I use the lip of the rim to keep the running water off the wool. Fill to within about an inch from the top.

As you pour the water in, add vinegar carefully.  The idea is to not wash the dye powder off the wool,
so everything is done slowly and carefully, to disturb the dyebath as little as possible.

Step 6:

After there is enough water in the crock pot, gently push any wool with dry powder on it into the water.
Use the spoon or other implement to push only. Do not stir! If you do, you'll get muddy brown instead of rainbows.

Step 7:

As in space dyeing, cover the crock pot and turn it to LOW.  Heat for 3 hours, then turn it off and let it sit for at least
3 hours. When the wool is cool enough to touch without gloves, rinse carefully in water the same temperature
as the wool. Do not agitate or you might felt the fibers. This is what the rainbow dyed roving looks like:

You're now ready for the final step, which is the same for space dyeing and rainbow dyeing.
